Sioux City Musketeers News Release
The Musketeers took home 3 points out of 4 possible after a 4-1 victory and 3-2 overtime loss in a doubleheader weekend in Sioux Falls to move to 12-13-6-1 on the season.
Friday night the Musketeers would score the first goal at the 11:50 mark as Ben Doran was able to tap in a goal behind Jaxson Stauber that deflected off the post and gave Sioux City the 1-0 lead in the 1st period. The Stampede would come out and score at the 6:35 mark, but that would be their only goal of the game as the Musketeers were able to put two more in the net with Christian Jimenez in between the circles at the 7:47 mark, and David Gucciardi on the short side at the 14:32 mark taking a 3-1 lead before the final period of regulation. Joel Maatta would score his 9th goal of the season to finish out the 4-1 victory over the I-29 rival Sioux Falls Stampede. Akira Shmid, the former Omaha Lancer would make his first start in a Musketeer uniform and would stop 28 of 29 shots on goal.
Sioux City returned to the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center on Saturday night after staying the night in Sioux Falls after the blizzard conditions buried the city in seven inches of snow. The Musketeers struck first when Nolan Krenzen buried a rebound for his third goal of the season. Musketeers would strike first in a defensive showcase as they scored the only goal of the first two periods off a shot by Viktor Masilevich for Nolan Krenzen to grab the rebound and bury behind Stauber with his 3rd goal of the season. The Musketeers would kill off 6 of 7 Sioux Falls powerplays and get 4 of their own they were not able to capitalize on. Sioux Falls would score at the 12:08 mark in the 3rd period to tie it 1-1. Sam Stange, the Musketeers leading goal scorer would give them another one with his 19th of the season and a 2-1 lead at the 13:58 mark in the 3rd period. The Stampede would not go away as they tied it up again at the 17:26 mark. Regulation would not be enough as they would head to overtime where the Stampede would grab the victory at 3-2 with just 28 seconds left.
The Musketeers return to the road next weekend and take their first trip this season to Lincoln, Nebraska to take on the Lincoln Stars on Friday, January 24th at 7:05 P.M. before traveling to Omaha and Ralston Arena to take on the Omaha Lancers Saturday, January 25th at 7:05 P.M.
