Quad City Mallards News Release

Moline, Ill. - Todd Robinson and Matt Krug converted penalty shots as the host Muskegon Lumberjacks bounced back after Quad City's Patrick Levesque tied the game in final minute of regulation to defeat the Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, 3-2 in a shootout Friday night. The Mallards did earn one point for their efforts, so that while the Flock's season-best five game unbeaten streak was snapped, Quad City did extend its eight-game regulation unbeaten streak to a season best eight games (6-0-0-2).

Robinson and Krug both buried shootout chances while only Mike Zbriger converted for the Mallards.

Overtime and, as it would prove, the shootout only proved necessary after Patrick Levesque- who also had an assist- tipped home Jacques Perreault's shot to tie the game at two with just over 49 seconds left in regulation.

After Mike Zbriger's solo rush gave the Mallards a 1-0 lead at 4:18 of the first period, the Lumberjacks responded with a pair of first period goals of their own to grab the lead they would nurse deep into the the third period. At 7:07 of the first Damien Surma buried the puck from the slot; at 17:01 Muskegon moved on top 2-1 when Robin Bouchard pounced on a loose puck on the doorstep.

The Mallards return to action tomorrow evening on home ice against the Flint Generals at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans ages 12-and-under through the doors for Saturday's game will receive free Mallards' replica jerseys courtesy of Genesis Health System and Pepsi.
