Moline, Ill. (January 12, 2010) - The Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, announced today that the Mallards have signed center Matt Cook and have placed winger Terry Harrison on 30-day injured reserve.
Cook, a 23-year old rookie, started this season in the Central Hockey League, where he played two games for the Texas Brahmas before moving on to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, for whom he scored one goal and picked up two assists in seven games. After completing his senior season at Union College last spring, the Belle Mead, New Jersey, native turned pro with the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads, for whom he recorded a goal and an assist in nine games.
In 39 games with Union last season, the 5' 11", 197-pound Cook scored nine goals and totaled 23 points. In four years with the Dutchmen, Cook scored 34 goals and notched 77 points in 141 career collegiate games.
A groin injury has kept Harrison out of six of the Mallards' last seven games. The 31-year old Winnipeg native has produced seven goals and 17 points in 21 games this season.
The Mallards return to action Friday night in Muskegon against the Lumberjacks. Saturday evening at 7:05 p.m. the Mallards will be back in action on home ice against the Flint Generals. The first 1,000 fans ages 12-and-under through the doors for Saturday's game will receive free Mallards' replica jerseys courtesy of Genesis Health System and Pepsi.
