Muskegon Signs Tynan Lawrence to Tender Agreement
February 12, 2024 - United States Hockey League (USHL) News Release
The Muskegon Lumberjacks announced today that they have signed forward Tynan Lawrence to a USHL tender agreement for the 2024-25 season.
A 2008 birth year from Fredericton, N.B., Lawrence is currently skating with the 16U AAA program at Shattuck St. Mary's in Faribault, Minn.
"It's a great opportunity here," Lawrence said. "I explored all of my options, and I really like the Lumberjacks. What they do with their players with their development."
The Lumberjacks aren't strangers to tendering players from Canada. Forward Sacha Boisvert currently ranked #17 among North American Skaters in the 2024 NHL draft was a tender of the Jacks during the 2021-2022 season.
Lawrence recently represented Canada at the 2024 Youth Olympics in Korea where he recorded four points in four games helping Canada to an appearance in the semi-finals.
Lumberjacks President of Hockey Operations Steve Lowe is excited about Tynan joining the Lumberjacks next season. "This is a really big signing for the Lumberjacks as well as the USHL as a whole. Signing a player of his (Lawrence's) caliber to the league shows just how impressive the development is in the USHL."
While Tynan shared his excitement to join the Jacks his father Darren shared the same enthusiasm. "We had a really good feeling and know it will be a good opportunity for Tynan to see what he has at the next level. It's the whole package as far as the opportunity, the league, and the organization. It's a really great fit."
Head coach of the Lumberjacks Parker Burgess also spoke on the addition of Tynan to the Lumberjacks organization. "We are excited to add Tynan and his family to the Lumberjacks organization. He is a high- end talent and future NHL prospect. We are looking forward to working with him and helping him develop on and off the ice."
As a tender Lawrence is set to play with the Lumberjacks starting in the 2024-2025 season joining Rudolfs Berzkalns, who the Jacks tendered earlier this season.
The USHL tender process allows teams to sign up to two 2008 birth year players in exchange for their first and second-round picks in the 2024 USHL Phase I Draft. As a result of signing Lawrence (and Berzkalns) the Lumberjacks surrender their first and second-round picks in Phase I of the USHL Draft this upcoming spring. Each tendered player will be on their respective team's roster the next season and play at least 55% of the team's regular season games.
Lawrence becomes the 15th tender in Lumberjacks team history, joining Rudolphs Berzkalns (2024), Cameron Aucoin (2023), Owen Keefe (2022), Sacha Boisvert (2022), Gavin McCarthy (2021), Carson Rehkopf (2021), Owen Mehlenbacher (2020), Ivan Miroshnichenko (2020), Dylan Gratton (2019), Alex Gaffney (2018), Andrei Svechnikov (2016), Graham Lillibridge (2015), Mitch Eliot (2014) and Chaz Switzer (2013).
