
Murray named OHL Player of the Week

Toronto - The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Kitchener Rangers' Rookie Goaltender and former Stampede star, John Murray is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 29, 2006. Murray, a resident of Lancaster, Pennsylvania went 4-0 with a shutout this past week. He finished the week with a 1.25 GAA and a .959% save percentage, stopping 117 of the 122 shots that he faced, in four games.
Murray started his week by stopping 29 of 30 shots while earning a victory over the London Knights, the number two ranked team in the Canadian Hockey League. He followed up that performance with a win over the Peterborough Petes, again allowing only one goal.
On Saturday night Murray was unbeatable as he stopped 43 shots to pick up the shutout against the Plymouth Whalers. He was also named the first star of the game. The next afternoon Murray finished up his outstanding week by stopping 20 shots to record the victory over the Mississauga IceDogs.
Murray is currently second in the OHL with a goals against average of 2.49. He is also third overall in the league with a .919% save percentage.
Last season with Sioux Falls, Murray went 23-7-1 with a 2.14 GAA and .930 save percentage; both franchise records for the Stampede.
