Kentucky Horsemen News Release

LEXINGTON, Ky., June 16, 2005 - For the second time this season, Lexington's William Mulder is the recipient of a United Indoor Football League Player-of-the-Week honor. The 5'11", 170 pound defensive back earned the Week 13 Defensive Player-of-the-Week award after he logged five solo tackles, five tackle assists, and two pass breakups in the Horsemen's big 61-43 victory over the Sioux Falls Storm. He also recorded a fumble recovery and an interception, which he returned 33 yards for a touchdown.

The Horsemen defensive back is among the league leaders in most defensive categories. Mulder's seven interceptions is second in the league behind Sioux Fall's Shannon Pappinga's eight. He is third in passes defended with 16, nine breakups and seven interceptions. He ranks him twelfth in the league with 58 tackles and first among Horsemen. Mulder's presence is also felt on special teams. He is tops in the league in yards per return, averaging 24.7. He also ranks ninth in all-purpose yards, averaging 78.1 per game.

In week seven, Mulder was named UIF Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. He had three kick returns for a total of 92 yards, including one return end-to-end for a 50-yard touchdown in the game against the visiting Greyhounds. Mulder also led the charge on the other side of the ball with 3 solo tackles. His efforts led Lexington to a close home win against long-time rival Ohio Valley.

Mulder, in his second season with the Horsemen, is known for his unmatched abilities in the defensive backfield. In 2004, he led the team in interceptions with 10 in the regular season, including five against Waco, in which three were returned for touchdowns. He also added four interceptions in the post season on the way to 2004 National Championship.

Mulder was a standout defensive back at Campbellsville College from 2000 to 2003, and was an NAIA honorable mention All-American in 2001. Additionally, he was named to the Mid-South Conference all conference team three times in his career. He led the Fighting Tigers in interceptions and pass breakups as a senior, picking off five passes and returning them a total of 120 yards, while also breaking up 14 pass attempts. Mulder tallied 49 tackles on the season, and also contributed on special teams, where he led the team in kick return average at 28.4 yards per return.

With four games left on the Horsemen schedule, Mulder has the opportunity to earn his third Player-of-the-week honor. The Horsemen travel to Fort Wayne to face the Midwest Division leading Freedom before returning to Lexington to play the final three games of the UIF season in Rupp Arena. Lexington will face Tennessee Valley on June 25 at 7:30 for "Kids Night", sponsored by Toys-R-Us and Gatti Town. The game will be carried live on Super Talk 96.1 FM with Gary Ball and Bill Ransdell.
