Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League today introduced a brand new "retro" secondary logo and uniform design that will become a part of the team's identity during the 2009-2010 season. The retro jerseys will be featured during Friday night home games this year, with those games being known as "Flashback Fridays" throughout the season.
The new retro logo was designed exclusively for the Mudbugs by The Joe Bosack Graphic Design Company, Inc. (www.joebosack.com ) to provide an old-time feel for the 'Bugs in their 13th season. The logo is intended to tie together the two cities that the Mudbugs call home, with the powerful Red River flowing between them in the logo as it does in reality.
"We wanted an iconic logo that captured the essence of this great community," said President & General Manager Ray Delia. "When I approached Joe with the concept of creating a logo that focused on the community while having the look of a vintage era, he quickly delivered a design that the entire organization, our fans, and community can be proud of. We look forward to debuting the new sweaters during our first flashback Friday event on October 23."
The City of Shreveport is represented by the shield appearing on the left of the river in the logo. The same shield is featured on the City of Shreveport flag with its three diagonal sections in blue, red and white. The Shreveport flag has been a symbol of the city since 1934.
Correspondingly, the blue star located to the right of the river stands for Bossier City. The star is central on the Bossier City flag, along with another rendering of the Red River and the name of the city in front of three horizontal stripes.
The words "Bossier-Shreveport Hockey Club" encircling the logo are reminiscent of the early days of professional hockey, when teams were known more by their home city than a team name or mascot.
Most of the Mudbugs' Friday home games throughout the season will be "Flashback Fridays" that highlight the retro uniforms. Bossier-Shreveport will start the season wearing their normal white home jerseys during the October 16 season opener against Laredo. The team will continue to wear black jerseys on the road this season until the CHL All-Star break, when each of the league's member teams switches to wearing dark uniforms at home and whites on the road.
The Mudbugs will begin the 2009-2010 season this Friday night at 7:05 against the Laredo Bucks at the CenturyTel Center. Season ticket packages and mini-plans are available now, so call (318) 752-BUGS or stop by the team office inside CenturyTel Center for more information.
