MUD HENS NOTES
A near sweep: The Toledo Mud Hens took five of six games from the Indianapolis Indians over the week, winning every game other than the rainy affair on Wednesday. Toledo outscored Indianapolis 45-24, 32-12 over the last three games of the series.
The Hens are hot: The Hens scored 45 runs over the six games this week with 59 total hits. The Hens clubbed 33 extra base hits, including 10 home runs and 21 doubles. Justyn-Henry Malloy and Jace Jung each blasted two home runs while six other Hens smacked one, including back-to-back blasts by Andrew Navigato and Anthony Bemboom in game two of the Saturday doubleheader. Buddy Kennedy led all hitters with eight RBI and eight hits. The Mud Hens also showed plate discipline, drawing 23 walks as a team during the week.
Two games, two wins: The Mud Hens had a doubleheader on Saturday after a rainout on Thursday pushed Toledo and Indianapolis into a Saturday twin bill. Game one saw all of the scoring within the first two innings before pitching and defense prevailed as the Mud Hens won 3-2 in seven innings. Game two was the opposite, the Mud Hens posted seven runs in the first inning and added six more runs over their last five chances to seal a 13-4 victory.
Battle of the birds: The Toledo Mud Hens will head to Rochester for a six-game series against the Red Wings. The Hens will play at 6:05 p.m. three times (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday), two 1:05 p.m. games on Saturday and Sunday along with a morning game, with the first pitch coming at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday morning.
