Muckdogs Game Notes

July 22, 2018 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Batavia Muckdogs News Release

Today's Game- Batavia looks to save game three of a series against the division-leading Mahoning Valley Scrappers. After the league off day, the Staten Island Yankees come to town for three games.

That was last night- It was a 2-1 ballgame after the second inning, at which point both pitching staffs lockied into a pitchers' duel. The third through seventh innings went scoreless with no more than three hits for each team through that span. Mahoning Valley combined to score five runs in the last two innings to win 7-3.

Donadio digging in- Michael Donadio has now hits in ten of his last 12 games. He's tallied 13 hits, and has crossed the plate five times in that span. He is tied for second on the team with two home runs. He left St. John's with the second most all-time hits with 268.

Reynolds Raking- Sean Reynolds has been able to find the power in his bat this season. He currently is second in the league in home runs, fourth in RBI's and leads the league in runs scored. He is also the league leader in walks with 23.

Jammed Up July- Batavia's offense has slowed up significantly in the month of July. They have opened up the first half of the month with a 9-11 record, and have scored only 4.1 runs per game. That has taken a steep decline from the 5.2 runs per game that the Muckdogs were putting up in June.

Flipping the script- To start off the season, Batavia had settled themselves within the top five in the NYPL in batting average and runs, but have since slipped from that peak. Meanwhile, the opposite has happened for the pitching staff. The Muckdogs arms have now settled with the fifth best ERA in the league after starting off in the bottom end of the league.

Beginning from behind- The Muckdogs have had trouble with giving up early leads in ballgames. Batavia has trailed after the fifth inning on 18 different occasions so far this season, and have gone 4-14 in those contests.

Recent Roster Action- On July 19th, Batavia added LHP Alex Vesia from the GCL Marlins.

Marlins Update- The Marlins scored a second-straight win over the Tampa Bay Rays by a 3-2 margin. Rookie pitcher Pablo Lopez gave up three hits in six innings, and a Cameron Maybin HR boosted Miami to clinch the one-run victory.
