THE GAME

Las Vegas leads the all-time series 3-0 over the Mountain Lions, who played as the California Redwoods in last year's inaugural season. Las Vegas (5-1) won the UFL championship last year and has already clinched a spot in this year's title game. A Sacramento (2-4) victory would keep the Mountain Lions in the race to play in the championship game in Omaha on Nov. 27. A loss would eliminate Sacramento from contention. The game will be broadcast on VERSUS and be carried on the radio at KHTK 1140.

LAST TIME THEY MET

Las Vegas beat the Mountain Lions 26-3 at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento on Oct. 15. The Locos led 9-3 after the third quarter, then pulled away with 17 straight points in the fourth quarter. Las Vegas had just 277 offensive yards but it forced Sacramento into six turnovers (including four interceptions). Las Vegas kicker Steven Hauschka had four field goals. Running back Cory Ross led the way for Sacramento, catching 10 passes for 82 yards and running 15 times for 71 yards. Daunte Culpepper was 23-41 passing for 210 yards and he threw four interceptions.

KEY MATCHUP NO. 1

Sacramento running back Cory Ross vs. Las Vegas outside linebacker Teddy Lehman. In three career games against the Locos, Ross has 229 yards and two touchdowns on the ground (4.6 yards per carry) and 13 catches for 115 yards. Lehman has combined to make 20 total tackles in three games against the California Redwoods/ Sacramento Mountain Lions.

KEY MATCHUP NO. 2

Las Vegas running back DeDe Dorsey vs. Sacramento outside linebacker Dontarrious Thomas. Thomas has made 28 total tackles in three all-time games against Las Vegas. Dorsey has scored two total touchdowns and combined for 152 yards in three all-time games against the Redwoods/ Mountain Lions.

MOUNTAIN LIONS PLAYERS, COACH GREEN STRESS IMPORTANCE OF THIS GAME

Sacramento running back Cory Ross, the UFL's leading rusher a year ago, has played against Las Vegas three times and come up empty three times. "We are excited," Ross said. "I've been playing in this league for two years and never beat Vegas. We have to do it. We have to beat them." Teammate Mike Mabry, Sacramento's starting center, is excited for tonight's game. "This is really important," he said. "They are our natural rival and we need to bring everything together to play a good game against Las Vegas to beat them." Mountain Lions head coach Dennis Green expects his team to play much better than it did in an Oct. 15th loss (26-3) to Las Vegas. "It should be an exciting game," Green said. "We will eliminate the mistakes. Last time we played after a tough loss (to Las Vegas), earlier this year, we came back and played a great game against Florida (a 21-17 victory). We expect to do the same this week."

SACRAMENTO RECEIVER JOE WEST COMING OFF HIS BEST GAME OF SEASON

Sacramento receiver Joe West caught four passes for 96 yards in Saturday night's 27-26 loss to visiting Hartford. He was quarterback Daunte Culpepper's leading receiver for the first time this season. West combined to catch 10 passes for 151 yards in the first five games. He played for Dennis Green and the California Redwoods in 2009, catching 16 passes for 193 yards. He has totaled 14 catches for 247 yards so far this season.

SACRAMENTO'S WOODS HAS FIRST SPECIAL TEAMS RETURN FOR A SCORE IN UFL HISTORY

Sacramento return specialist Aaron Woods had the first special teams return for a touchdown in UFL history during Sacramento's 27-26 loss to visiting Hartford on Saturday night. Woods returned a punt 60 yards for a touchdown late in the first quarter, putting the Mountain Lions up 14-0. The former Portland State star is averaging 21.9 yards per kick return and 12.3 yards per punt return this season. Woods was the UFL's Special Teams Player of the Week.
