June 8, 2011 - United Football League (UFL 1)
Sacramento Mountain Lions News Release

Sacramento, CA - WEDNESDAY, June 8, 2011 - The Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League are continuing to sign players for the 2011 season.

Head coach DENNIS GREEN and the Mountain Lions have signed running back JOHN DAVID WASHINGTON (Morehouse College), linebackers MICHAEL TAUILIILI (Duke University), MAURICE CRUM (University of Notre Dame) and CLINTON SNYDER (Stanford University), wide receiver JAYSON FOSTER (Georgia Southern University), tight end KAI BROWN (Brown University), defensive backs ROBERT BOURNE (Colorado State) and TERELLE MAZE (San Diego State), defensive end ROBERTO DAVIS (Northwest Missouri State), offensive lineman KEVIN MYERS (New Mexico Highlands University), punter TOM MALONE (USC) and long snapper AARON KING (University of Texas at El Paso) to their active roster over the last two weeks.

All but Davis were with the Mountain Lions for at least part of the 2010 season, in which Sacramento went 4-4 and averaged about 18,250 fans at Hornet Stadium. Davis was the Mountain Lions fourth-round draft pack in May's UFL Draft.

Washington enters his third UFL season under coach Green, as he played for the California Redwoods in 2009 and the Mountain Lions in 2010. He scored two touchdowns while backing up UFL Offensive MVP Cory Ross in 2010. He spent 2006 and 2007 on the St. Louis Rams practice squad and has also played in NFL Europe.

Washington is the son of Academy Award-winning actor DENZEL WASHINGTON and he appeared as a student in the movie 'Malcolm X', which starred his father in the title role. John David's parents, Denzel and PAULETTA WASHINGTON, roamed the sidelines for the Mountain Lions home games in 2010.

"I want to thank coach Green and staff for giving me another opportunity to play the sport I love," Washington said. "It is a privilege to be a professional athlete and I honor that privilege by working hard for the Sacramento Mountain Lions."

Maze, Malone, Tauiliili and Foster have each tasted life in the NFL. Malone, Sacramento's punter last year, has spent time with three NFL organizations (San Francisco 49ers, New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks). Foster has NFL experience with the Miami Dolphins (pre-season, practice squad 2008), Pittsburgh Steelers (practice squad 2008; off-season 2009), Denver Broncos (practice squad 2008, off-season 2009) and the Baltimore Ravens (pre-season 2009). He has played in eight NFL pre-season games.

Tauiliili, who spent off-season time with the Indianapolis Colts after signing with them in 2009, was third on the Mountain Lions with 40 tackles last season. Maze was with the Baltimore Ravens during the pre-season in 2007 and this is his second season with Sacramento.

This is the third UFL season under Green for both Crum and Brown. Crum had 25 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble a year ago while Brown caught two passes for seven yards.

Bourne broke his leg during the fourth game of the season last year and missed the rest of the year for the Mountain Lions. He played under the name Robert Herbert while at Colorado State. Snyder suited up for the Mountain Lions for two games in 2010 but didn't record any stats. He started 42 of 44 career games at Stanford before his college career ended with a knee injury in November of 2009. He led the Cardinal in tackles at the time of the injury.

King was the Mountain Lions long snapper in 2010 while Myers joined the Mountain Lions in week five but he suffered a hand injury prior to being able to take the field.

The Mountain Lions now have 29 players under contract as Green and his staff continue to get ready for the 2011 season. Training camp will begin in mid-July. The previous 17 signees were announced in May press releases.

The UFL season will begin in August and the schedule will be announced at 10 a.m. THURSDAY, JUNE 9.
