Motown Jammers begin first season Saturday

Detroit, MI. Byron "Skip" Willis, General Manager of the ABA Motown Jammers professional basketball team today announced that the team will take the court on Saturday, Nov 20th for its opening game against the Kentucky Colonels at 7PM at the University of Michigan Dearborn Fieldhouse. For their inaugural season, the U of M Dearborn Fieldhouse will serve as the Jammers' home game venue as well as their practice site.

Willis brings valuable experience to the Jammers, including over 25 years of coaching basketball. Before being named GM, he coached teams at Martin Luther King High School, Highland Park Community College, Wayne State University and the former ABA Detroit Dogs team. The Jammers have named Eric Watson as Head Coach and Bill Jones as Assistant Coach.

Watson, who grew up in Detroit, was a 3-year starter and first team all-city point guard at Cass Tech High School. He also played collegiate ball at Weber State and Eastern Michigan. He was an assistant coach for Skip Willis at both Highland Park and the ABA's Detroit Dogs. He is now embarking on his first season as Head Coach.

Jones, also from Detroit, was a 4-year starter at the University of Iowa under legendary coaches George Raveling and Tom Davis. He then played pro with the NBA's New Jersey Nets coached by NBA Hall of Famer Willis Reed. GM Willis stated, "Both Eric and Bill have winning backgrounds and extensive knowledge about the game. We are confident in their leadership abilities as we enter our first season in the ABA."
