North Shore Spirit News Release

Lynn, MA– The North Shore Spirit extended their winning streak to three games Wednesday night with an 8-5 win against the Elmira Pioneers at the New Fraser Field.

Bryan Morse (9-3) scattered ten hits over eight innings to pick up the win. Ryan Bicondoa got the final three outs for his league-leading 19th save.

The Spirit opened the scoring in the second. Joe Hastings leadoff with a double and scored on a Frank Charles sacrifice fly. Elmira pushed across a pair of runs in both the fourth and fifth inning, highlighted by a Yugi Nerei RBI double.

Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth, North Shore rallied for three runs. The big play came when Elmira centerfielder Jeremy Dodson misplayed a Yuri Sanchez single, allowing two runs to score and putting Sanchez at third. One batter later, Lucas Taylor pulled the Spirit even with a perfectly executed squeeze play.

The game remained deadlocked until the bottom of the seventh. After Brian Macchi reached on an error, Sanchez unloaded on a Saul Solveson offering, sending it over the right-center fence for his third homerun of the season. North Shore would tack on another run, thanks to a Vic Davilla RBI basehit.

Brian Macchi finished 2-4 with two runs scored. Yuri Sanchez had two hits and three RBI's.

RHP Aaron Dean (4-4, 6.93) takes the mound for the Spirit on Thursday night and will face New Haven's Tony Harden (3-4, 3.78). Thursday's game begins at 7:05 pm, gates open at 5:30 pm.

You can catch all Spirit games, home and away, on the flagship station of the North Shore Spirit, WESX 1230 AM. All games are also broadcast via the Internet on www.northshorespirit.com.
