Belleville Bulls News Release
NORTH BAY, ON - The Belleville Bulls travel north for back-to-back games starting on Thursday night in North Bay. The Bulls are coming off probably their most timely win of the season, defeating the number one team in the country in dramatic fashion last Saturday at the Yardmen Arena. Despite having a two game win streak snapped by the Niagara IceDogs last weekend, the Battalion have clinched their Eastern Conference playoff birth. Puck drop from North Bay Memorial Gardens is set for 7:00pm.
The IceDogs opened up the scoring early and took full advantage of a three-goal first period as they defeated the visiting Battalion 5-2 last Saturday night. Goal scorers for North Bay were Vancouver Canucks prospect Miles Liberati and 1995-born Centre Ryan Kujawinski. Oakville, Ontario native Jake Smith made 20 saves in the loss.
With under ten games remaining in the regular season, the Troops continue to be led offensivley by Mike Amadio. The Los Angeles Kings third rounder has posted 22 goals and handed out 39 assists in 59 games played. Left-winger Nick Paul has been a key contributor with his team leading 33 goals in just 50 games played including six tallies in the last six games. Netminder Jake Smith has been strong between the pipes all season as he owns a .896 save percentage and a 2.76 goals against average.
The Bulls are coming off a huge 4-1 win over the visiting Oshawa Generals last weekend. Heading into the final frame knotted up at one, the Bulls potted three un-answered goals handing the Gens their third loss in the last ten games. Blue liner Jordan Subban extended his franchise record when he buried his 24th of the season. Other goal scorers were Adam Laishram, Niki Petti and Brett Welychka. Toronto, native Charlie Graham stood on his head and made a season high 51 saves in the win.
Subban leads the club with 24 goals and 23 assists in 57 games played thus far. Over age winger Brett Gustavsen has pitched in with 18 goals and 19 assists in 59 games played.
