The Wilmington Sharks (7-9) knocked twelve hits for the sixth time in seven games, but fell to the Morehead City Marlins (7-8) by a score of 9-7 in 12 innings on Tuesday night in Wilmington. This was the first game of the Marlins / Sharks series that was decided by more than one run.

In his first game as a Wilmington Shark for the 2015 summer, third baseman Alex Raburn made his presence known. He knocked three singles, scored once and collected an RBI in the process.

The Sharks responded to Morehead City's one run first with three runs in the home half of the same inning, kick started by Nick Rotola's leadoff double. Alex Raburn was hit by a pitch before Nowlin singled to center to score the two Sharks. Another run would come across on a Jae Roberts sacrifice fly to score Alex Destino. The 3-1 lead was Wilmington's only lead of the game, and it would not last long.

Morehead City sent eleven batters to the plate brought five runs across in the second inning, the result of five singles, a walk, a hit batter, and two sacrifice flies.

After their big inning, Sharks pitching would retire the next seventeen Marlins batters. Hunter Smith was taken out of the game in the middle of the fourth when play stopped due to the lights malfunctioned and turned off.

Wilmington would chip away at Morehead City's advantage, scoring a run in the second, fifth, and sixth. In the fifth, Kyle Nowlin hit his second home-run in as many games when he hit a solo shot to left-center, and Gavin Stupienski hit a home-run to lead off the sixth.

Morehead City's Steven Wallace homered in the tenth to bring in the go-ahead run, but Wilmington was not going down easy, picking up a run in the bottom of the tenth. Alex Raburn started it off with a single, moved up to second when Alex Destino took one on the elbow. Matt Whatley stepped in and picked up a pinch-hit single to load the bases for Gavin Stupienski with one out. A wild pitch from Marlins reliever Zach Reid allowed pinch runner John Fallon to score, tying and extending the game.
