Morehead City Tops the Sharks 7-3

July 14, 2015 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Wilmington Sharks News Release

The Wilmington Sharks (20-18, 6-6) notched eleven hits as they fell to the Morehead City Marlins (14-21, 3-6) by a score of 7-3 on Tuesday night at Buck Hardee Field in Wilmington. The Marlins improve to 5-3 in the summer series against the Sharks. Nick Rotola, Matt Whatley, and Jae Roberts each had multi-hit ballgames for the Sharks.

Morehead City scored first in the second inning on an RBI double down the left field line by Noah Cummings, and added another in the third on another RBI double by Blake Graham.

Wilmington got even in the fourth inning, following Gavin Stupienski's leadoff double, followed quickly by the first of two Jae Roberts singles. Hayes Nelson put one on the ground to the backside. Stupienski scored easily, but the throwing error on Nelson's grounder allowed Roberts to move around to third. He would be knocked in by an Alex Raburn single.

The Wilmington lead did not last long, as two more runs scored in each the fifth and sixth innings. Sharks starting pitcher Cody Tyler was on the hook for the loss, tossing six innings, allowing six runs on nine hits, while striking out five and walking one. Tyler was relieved by Andrew Locklear, Jackson Metcalf, and Joe Bialkowski.

There were plenty of opportunities for the Sharks Tuesday night. By the end of the contest, the Sharks would end up with a total of eleven men left on base.

The Wilmington Sharks will be back at home Wednesday night as they host the Lexington County Blowfish. This will be the first meeting between these two teams during the 2015 summer season. For tickets, call 910-343-5621 or visit www.wilmingtonsharks.com for more information.
