Asheville Aces News Release
The Asheville Aces made several roster moves prior to tonight's game at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena but were unable to pull out a win. The Aces added defenseman Greg Snitowski, forward R.J. Roy and resigned forward Chad Brandimore. Out of the lineup for Asheville are defenseman Chris Cloutier and forward Janis Tomans who were both placed on team suspension effective today. The final score tonight was 6-1 in favor of the Barracudas.
The Barracudas started off strong, finishing the first period up 2-0 with goals from Glen Crawford and Shawn Roed. Peter Bournazakis brought the Aces to within one early in the second with a power play goal. An even strength goal at the 7:31 mark, from new Barracuda Darren Partch, put Jacksonville up 3-1 and they never looked back.
Snitowski, who completes the other half of the Sergei Visegorodcevs trade, had a feisty night in his first game against his former team. Unfortunately, his feistiness resulted in a double minor for spearing in the second. With Snitowski in the box, Asheville defenseman Michal Pscheidt was sent off for high sticking resulting in a five-on-three shorthanded situation. Jacksonville's Greg Lecolst made it 4-1 on the power play, and then, with Pscheidt still serving his minor, Jason Silverthorn put the Cudas up 5-1. A late third period goal by Jim Murphy finished the Aces off and the game ended in a 6-1 loss. Jacksonville goalie Tyler Nilsson stopped 28 of 29 shots for the win. Asheville's Ryan Person had the loss with 23 saves on 29 shots.
The Aces look to rebound when they head back to Asheville for two big games this weekend against Winston-Salem and Knoxville. Both games are 7:30 p.m. starts at the Asheville Civic Center. Saturday night is KISS Country ThunderStix night with the first 1,000 fans through the doors receiving two ThunderStix courtesy of KISS Country FM and Asheville Fun Depot.
