Chris Moran's two goals in the second period propelled the Lancers on their way toward a 6-3 win over the Lincoln Stars Saturday night, December 17th, at the Mid America Center. It was the Lancers' third win of the year over the Stars and moved the Lancers within 13 points of first-place Sioux Falls in the West Division race.
After Lincoln's Mike Kramer's power play goal had given the Stars a 1-0 lead after one period, Moran went to work. Chris' first goal came off a feed from Corey Toy at 5:11 of the second period to tie the game at 1-1. Moran made it 2-1 when Ryan Turek and Tony Lucia got him the puck, which Moran converted for his eighth goal of the year at 11:14. Robby Dee then scored his third goal of the year at the 12:58 mark for a 3-1 Lancer lead after two periods of play.
Matt Schepke scored the Lancers' fourth goal at 14:57 of the third period for a 4-1 edge, but the Stars came back with a power play goal at 17:42 from James Perkin for a 4-2 Lancer advantage. Ryan Raven then answered for the Lancers with his eighth goal of the year, an empty-netter, assisted by Chris Hepp and Jake Marto at 18:08 for a 5-2 lead, which was cut to 5-3 when Chris Vande Velde scored for the Stars. Ryan Turek finished off the night with another empty-netter, assisted by Raven and Hepp for the final score of 6-3 for the Lancers.
Eddie Neville (8-7-1) won the game in goal for the Lancers with a 24 save performance, while Bryan Hogan took the loss for Lincoln, stopping 23 shots and allowing four goals.
The Lancers out shot the Stars 29-27 for the contest, but were unsuccessful in three power play opportunities. Lincoln scored twice on the power play in four chances.
