Wachusett Dirt Dawgs News Release
LEOMINSTER, Mass. - The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs bats were hot early and often as they defeated the visiting Torrington Titans 12-3.
The Dirt Dawgs (3-6) got off on the right foot in the bottom of the first thanks to Tyler McVicar's (Elon University) two-run homer over the deep centerfield wall. McVicar, who made his debut with the Dirt Dawgs today, went 4-for-5 with four RBIs, three runs scored, and two homeruns.
Dirt Dawgs' centerfielder Jamill Moquete (UMass Boston) also had an impressive day at the dish, hitting a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth to push Wachusett's lead to 8-0. He went 3-for-5 with 4 RBIs and three runs scored.
Dirt Dawgs' starter Nick Filloramo (Wheaton College) pitched six strong innings, scattering six hits and allowing only two runs. He also struck out five to earn the win and move to 2-0.
Connor McKay (University of Kansas) was the lone bright spot for the Titans (3-6), as he went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer in the top of the sixth.
Torrington starting pitcher, Mike Gibbons (Wheaton College), took the loss, moving to 1-1.
The Dirt Dawgs return to Doyle Field tomorrow, June 22nd, looking for their third straight victory. First pitch against the Brocton Rox is slated for 6:35 PM.
