March 4, 2023 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Halifax Mooseheads News Release

A crowd of more than 9,600 fans gathered at Scotiabank Centre on Saturday night for the annual DND Appreciation game in Moose Country and the home team put on a show with a 6-1 victory over the Cape Breton Eagles.

Josh Lawrence had a huge outing with five points by scoring twice and adding three assists as the Mooseheads wore special military themed jerseys in support of the Canadian Forces. Jordan Dumais picked up another three points with two goals and an assist while Mathieu Cataford also scored twice and Halifax improved to 42-9-4-3 to become just the second team in the QMJHL to surpass the 90-point mark in the standings. The Mooseheads now have 91 points and pulled to within two points of the Remparts for first overall after Quebec dropped 4-1 decision to Sherbrooke.

Alexandre Doucet, Brady Schultz and Jake Furlong each contributed a pair of assists in a game that was never in doubt for the Herd. Schultz set up goals by Lawrence and Dumais less than four minutes apart early in the first period for a lead that was all they would need. The Dumais power play marker stood up as the game-winner, giving the Blue Jackets prospect 10 game-winning goals for the season. He's tied with Timo Meier for fifth in franchise history with a career total of 15 game-winners.

The QMJHL scoring race now features three Mooseheads at the top with Dumais leading the charge at 115 points, followed by Doucet and Lawrence who both have 95. It was a case of another game, another historical moment for Dumais who surpassed Darcy Ashley for sole possession of third in franchise career scoring with 253 points and counting. It's only a matter of time before he reaches second place which is held by Maxime Fortier at 270. Brandon Benedict is the all-time leading scorer in Mooseheads history with 303 points.

Goalie Mathis Rousseau was close to a shutout, but had his bid broken up by Cam Squires who was left all alone in front of the crease and scored the Eagles' only tally at the 10:59 mark of the third period. Rousseau finished with 23 saves and became the first goalie in the QMJHL to reach 30 wins this season. The 18-year-old from Blainville, QC is 30-11 this season with a 2.49 goals against average and a .914 save percentage.

Fans interested in owning one of the special military themed jerseys will have a chance to win one of their own. 10 were raffled off to lucky winners at the game while the remaining will be put on the auction block online in the coming days at ElevateAuctions.com. Details will be announced this week. All proceeds are in support of the Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Gardens.

The weekend home action continues on Sunday at 4pm at Scotiabank Centre when the Mooseheads play host to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in a make-up game for the contest that was postponed on February 17th. Fans who had tickets for the 17th can use them for admission on Sunday. Tickets are on sale now at TicketAtlantic.com.
