Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose, in conjunction with the American Hockey League and the Houston Aeros, today announced the dates and times for the upcoming Calder Cup Western Conference Final between the Moose and Aeros.
After finishing first overall in the entire American Hockey League in the 2008-09 regular season, the Moose advanced to the Western Conference Final for the second time in their history by sweeping the Grand Rapids Griffins in the North Division Final after eliminating the Toronto Marlies in six games in the North Division Semi-Final. Jason Krog still leads all Moose scorers in the post-season with seven assists and 11 points while Alexandre Bolduc returned from injury to score three goals and five points in the North Division Final. Cory Schneider continued his outstanding play against Grand Rapids and is now the second-rated goalie in the Calder Cup playoffs with a 1.69 goals against average and a .936 save percentage.
The series will open up in Winnipeg next weekend, before shifting to Houston for Games 3 to 5, and then moving back to Winnipeg for Games 6 & 7, if necessary. The Moose and Aeros have never faced each other in the Calder Cup playoffs, however, the Moose came back from a 3-1 series deficit in the opening round of the Turner Cup playoffs in 2001 to edge the Aeros in seven games. At the time, both were members of the International Hockey League. This season, the Moose swept the four-game series between the two clubs. However, Manitoba was forced to score four goals in the third period to ensure one victory at the Toyota Center in Houston and also needed a shootout to secure another.
