Montreal Juniors News Release
Montreal - The Montreal Juniors matched up against divisional rival, the Val-d'Or Foreurs, on a classic Friday night showdown in the Auditorium and easily defeated the Foreurs, 5 to 1. The Juniors offense clicked from the start led by forward Matthew Brenton, who had a goal and two assists.
Montreal dominated much of the first period. The Juniors outshot their opponent 17 to 5. They also made the first strike when Nicolas Chouinard fired one past Raffaele D'Orso's glove side right from the faceoff for his nineteenth of the year at 3:58. Forward David Rose stretched the Juniors lead when he slapped one top shelf past D'Orso at 17:09.
In the second, the Juniors began to open up the game as most of the period was played in the Foreurs end. Forward Matthew Brenton tipped in Genest's point shot at 3:02 and Louis-Marc Aubry's power play goal at 7:26 gave the Juniors a four-goal lead before heading to the third. The Juniors also chased D'Orso from the net as Val'd'Or's replacement Jacob Gervais-Chouinard took over in the third.
The offensive production would continue in the third as Jeremy Gouchie fired the puck past Chouinard-the first shot that Chouinard faced. Foreurs only goal came from Cendrick Henley in the early going of the first. Yet, the Juniors played solid defense the rest of the way as they easily cruised to a 5 to 1 victory.
Montreal goaltender Jean-Francois Berube stopped 14/15 shots in the win. Foreurs goalie Raffaele D'Orso rejected 24/29 shots in the loss and his replacement Jacob Gervais-Chouinard made 6/7 stops. The Juniors record improves to 23-20-0-3 and the Foreurs record is 17-25-4-1.
The Juniors will have a tough game ahead of them as the top-ranked CHL team, the Saint John Sea Dogs, will be in town on tomorrow, at 4:05PM. Montreal will then go on a six-game road trip. The first stop will be the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies on a back-to-back series, Thursday and Friday. The next home game will be on February 12th when the Juniors take on the Val-d'Or Foreurs.
