
Montreal Canadiens Sign Alain Berger

Montreal - April 8th, 2011 - Montreal Canadiens General Manager Pierre Gauthier announced today that the Canadiens have signed free agent forward Alain Berger to a three-year contract. As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The 6-foot-4, 208 pound Berger appeared in 65 games with the Generals this season scoring 29 goals and 23 assists for 52 points while serving as one of the team's Alternate Captain's. So far this post-season, Berger has registered 4 goals and 1 assist for 5 points in 6 playoff games.
"We are thrilled for Alain," said Generals Head Coach and General Manager Chris DePiero. "Alain has worked hard to reach this goal and as an organization we couldn't be more proud of him to see him sign with the Canadiens, he is well deserving of this opportunity."
The 20-year-old native of Burgdorf, Switzerland is in his second season with the Generals after being the Club's first round selection in the 2009 CHL Import Draft, 27th overall. In his two seasons in Oshawa, Berger has scored 48 goals and 37 assists for 85 points in 109 games.
"I'm very excited to sign with Montreal," said Berger. "To have the chance to be with such a historic team here in Oshawa the last two years has been great and I look forward to the opportunity to join another historic team in the Canadiens."
Berger and the rest of the Generals will play Game Two of their Best-of-Seven Eastern Conference Semi-Final series against the Niagara IceDogs tomorrow night at the General Motors Centre at 7:05pm.
