MONTREAL, Quebec - Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced today the signing of defenceman Yannick Weber to a three-year entry-level contract (2008-2009 to 2010-2011). As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Weber, a native of Morges, Switzerland, spent the last two seasons with the Ontario Hockey League's Kitchener Rangers. In 2007-2008, the 19-year-old led all Kitchener defencemen with 55 points (20 goals, 35 assists) while posting a plus-7 rating and 79 penalty minutes in 59 regular season games. In 17 post-season contests, the 5'11", 191-pound rearguard recorded 17 points (4 goals, 13 assists) as the Rangers won the OHL championship and advanced to the Canadian Hockey League's Memorial Cup Final. Following the season, Weber was named to the OHL's Second All-Star Team and voted as the Kitchener Rangers' Top Offensive Defenceman.

In two OHL seasons, Weber accumulated 96 points (33 goals, 63 assists), served 121 penalty minutes and posted a plus-12 rating in a total of 110 games.

Internationally, Weber captained Switzerland at the International Ice Hockey Federation's 2008 Under-20 World Hockey Championships in the Czech Republic. In six games at the World Junior Championships Weber registered six points (2 goals, 4 assists) and 14 penalty minutes.

Weber was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the third round, 73rd overall, in the 2007 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
