Rochester Red Wings News Release
Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks today joined with Frontier Communications and the Rochester Red Wings to announce the naming rights of Frontier Field will remain with Frontier Communications for the next 10 years. Brooks was joined by Ken Arndt, Frontier's East Region President; Bill Carpenter, Area General Manager for Frontier's Rochester East Operations; along with Naomi Silver, President, CEO and COO of the Rochester Red Wings; and Dan Mason, Red Wings General Manager.
"This announcement commemorates a longstanding partnership between the County and Frontier Communications," said Brooks. "The County prides itself on providing Frontier Field visitors with the best possible experience and we are proud to announce that now includes free Wi-Fi. This latest enhancement will be especially welcome for our Red Wings fans, however it will also benefit Frontier Field visitors year-round. Monroe County is proud to leverage this important relationship with Frontier Communications to improve this facility and enhance its reputation as a top notch venue."
A driving force behind this latest enhancement is the evolving ballpark experience. Complimentary Wi-Fi internet service, powered by Frontier Communications, is the latest improvement at Frontier Field and one that marks the transition to a 21st Century fan experience. Frontier Communications has sponsored Frontier Field for the past 20 years and the new contract will guarantee another decade of partnership. The County has been seeking additional resources to support proposed renovations that would allow Frontier Field to change with the times and replace aging utilities and infrastructure.
"We are thrilled to continue our commitment to Monroe County, to the Red Wings and to the greater Rochester area by renewing our naming rights to Frontier Field," said Carpenter. "For the past two decades, Frontier has sponsored twenty wonderful seasons of baseball history at this stadium, and we are very happy to extend our support for another decade. We are especially excited to help deliver a 21st Century experience for fans at Frontier Field. Beginning this spring season, Frontier will provide full stadium Wi-Fi connectivity so everyone will be able to share photos, post to social media and stay connected while enjoying all that the stadium has to offer. Baseball, hot dogs and now Wi-Fi - proudly delivered by Frontier -- will be part of the Frontier Field and Red Wings experience in 2016!"
"The Red Wings are so pleased and excited that Monroe County has extended its relationship with Frontier Communications to allow us to continue calling our home Frontier Field. Since its inception 20 years ago, the name has resonated beautifully with the people of our community," said Silver. "The stadium was like a new 'frontier' at that time, and the name fit perfectly. People like tradition, and being able to continue to call this great place Frontier Field allows us to extend that tradition for the next generation. We would like to thank Maggie Brooks and her team, and Bill Carpenter and the team at Frontier Communications for their commitment to the community. Extending our great partnership with these two entities just as we head into our 20th season at Frontier Field helps us kick off a season-long anniversary celebration."
Frontier Field, located in the heart of Downtown Rochester has become a destination for families and baseball fans. Monroe County owns and operates the park. Frontier Field was built for a cost of $35.3 million and became the home of the Red Wings in 1997. The field was officially opened on July 11, 1996. Since then, the ballpark has been known as Frontier Field and now, that legacy will continue for another 10 years. Every year more than half a million people visit the stadium, extending the impact of Frontier Field from the City to all corners of the County and beyond. Rochester has been named the "Best Minor League Sports City in America," and the Red Wings have been awarded the John H. Johnson President's Trophy, the top honor given by Minor League Baseball.
Ken Arndt, President of Frontier's East Region, echoed Carpenter's comments, adding: "At Frontier, we consider ourselves partners with our business customers, extensions of their teams. We look for ways to help them grow, to find the best solutions to meet their communications needs, now and in the future. The renewal of Frontier's naming rights and our delivery of full-stadium Wi-Fi services is a great example of our 'customer-centric' philosophy at Frontier. We are proud to have been part of the past, and very excited to be part of the future, at Frontier Field!"
