Real Maryland Monarchs News Release
Silver Spring, MD - The Monarchs welcome the Pittsburgh Riverhounds this Sunday, June 6th at Richard Montgomery High School. The game is slated for a 6 pm kick-off.
In the first meeting, earlier this season, the two teams played to a tie 0-0. Since then, the teams have found themselves sitting in 4th and 5th place in the standings. Real Maryland FC (2-3-4 10 points) are just 2 points out of second place. Pittsburgh (1-3-3 6 points) sits in behind the Monarchs looking to continue to close the gap.
Real Maryland FC is coming off of a trip down to Charleston, SC where they faced the Battery who currently hold first place. The Monarchs took the early lead and lead for most of the game by a two goal margin. As the night wore on, the former First Division side clawed and scratched their way back into the match. In the end, the Monarchs were only able to walk away with (1) one point on the road due to a late Battery goal in stoppage time. It is the Monarchs second game in a row where they have tied.
Pittsburgh is hoping to continue its winning ways as this past weekend they dealt a devastating blow to the Richmond Kickers at the University of Richmond Stadium for their first victory on the Season. Up until this point, the Riverhounds have either tied all their games or have only dropped the match by a goal. Their record is not indicative of what they are able to do on the pitch, proving that this weekend.
Both Teams have strong defensive ties where both teams are going to have to grind it out if they want anything more than just a point. The Monarchs are led by captain Gareth Evans, Jonathan Borrajo, Mason Trafford and Kenneth Sola in the back with Brian Levey between the pipes.
The Riverhounds will be looking to Chad Severs and Lee Kouadio-Tobey who both currently have 6 points on the season. In addition to the Hounds defense, they will call on Richard Gilstrap in goal to step up. Gilsrap managed to frustrate the Monarch's forwards in their previous meeting by shutting them out.
