Monarchs waive three

SACRAMENTO, CALIF., May 18, 2004 – The Sacramento Monarchs today announce that the organization has waived Chelsea Grear, Christelle Jouandon and Núria Martínez.

Grear, a camp invitee, recently finished her four-year college career at the University of New Mexico. She averaged seven minutes, one steal and 1.5 points per game in two games played during the Monarchs preseason.

Jouandon, a professional basketball player in France and also a camp invitee, played two minutes in the Monarchs first preseason game against the Minnesota Lynx in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She played four minutes and had one assist in the Monarchs preseason game against Phoenix.

Martínez, Sacramento's third round draft pick (30th overall) in the 2004 WNBA Draft, played two minutes and had one rebound in the Monarchs first preseason game. Martínez will rejoin her national team and represent Spain in the 2004 Olympics.

The Monarchs camp roster now stands at twelve, with 10 returning players, one draft pick and one free agent.

The first of seventeen regular season home games will be played against the Minnesota Lynx on Opening Night, Saturday, May 22, at 7 p.m. at ARCO Arena. Sacramento's regular season will begin on the road on Thursday, May 20, at the Phoenix Mercury at 7 p.m. at America West Arena. Limited tickets for Opening Night remain available.
