Tulsa Oilers News Release
WICHITA, KS - Jarred Mohr spent 14 days on the injured reserve list and wasted no time making an impact in his return to the Oilers lineup on Saturday night. Playing against his former team for the first time, Mohr tapped home the game-winning goal in overtime to give Tulsa a 3-2 victory over the Wichita Thunder. The Oilers (6-6-2) reached the .500 mark for the first time this season and have won six of their last seven games.
Tulsa forward Brandon Coccimiglio netted his seventh goal of the season on a first period power play to give the visitors an early 1-0 advantage. Six minutes after Coccimiglio's strike, veteran winger Michel Beausoleil tapped in a pass from Todd Robinson to provide the Oilers a two-goal cushion. The goal moved Beausoleil into sole possession of fifth place on the Oilers all-time goal list with 98.
The Oilers maintained the 2-0 lead until the 16:27 mark of the second period when Thunder forward Jon Booras roofed a power play wrist shot over Tulsa goalie Shane Madolora to put Wichita on the board. The Thunder struck again with the man-advantage in the final second of the middle frame. A loose puck squirted to the point and Jesse Dudas pulled the trigger just in time to beat the buzzer and Madolora. With 0.3 seconds left on the second period clock, the contest was tied at 2-2.
Nothing was decided in the third period but the Oilers sealed the victory just 45 seconds into the extra session. Robinson drove toward Thunder goalie Torrie Jung and feathered a pass across the top of the goal crease to the waiting stick of Mohr. The eighth-year defenseman made no mistake from close range and his first goal of the season gave the Oilers their third road triumph of the year.
Tulsa improved to 3-1-0 against Wichita this season and earned a weekend sweep of the Thunder after posting a 7-4 win on Friday night. The two points pushes the Oilers past Brampton and into fifth place in the CHL standings.
The Oilers will finish off the weekend on Sunday afternoon at 4:05 p.m. at the BOK Center for the first ever meeting against the Beast.
