Mohawks pile on nine runs in last two innings to beat DiamondDawgs 12-4

The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs welcomed the first place Amsterdam Mohawks to Veteran's Memorial Park on Sunday as they continued their summer Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League rivalry. The game remained scoreless after three innings. The game headed into the seveth tied at three until the Mohawks' bats caught fire. The Mohawks exploded for nine runs in the last two innings to pick up their 19th win of the season winning 12 - 3.

Cameron Sorgie (UAlbany) 1-1, 3.78 ERA went five innings for the Dawgs giving up three runs (two earned, six walks and six strikeouts. Aaron Casper (Canisius) came in for relief and pitched two innings giving up two hits, a walk and two strikeouts. Salvatore Lisanti (Bryant) picked up the loss after pitching one inning and allowing four hits and four runs (three earned) and two strikeouts. Finally, Taylor Wright (Brown) pitched an inning and gave up five hits and five earned runs and one strikeout.

Amsterdam starter Matt Gage (Siena) 4-0, 1.80 ERA pitched five innings giving up six hits, three earned runs, and three walks and recorded seven strikeouts. Scott Heath (Maine) picked up the win with three innings pitched, two hits, a walk and two strikeouts. Kevin Archbold (UAlbany) came in to finish the game with one inning pitched giving up a hit, an earned run and picked up a strikeout.

The DiamondDawgs hitting was led by Tyler Heck (Union) and Chris Cruz (Cornell) who both went 2 for 5 and had triples and RBIs while Heck also had a run scored. Luke Nethaway (Herkimer C.C.) hit a home run and finished the night 1 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI. Jesse Buratt also went 1 for 3 for the Dawgs and had a double.

The Amsterdam bats were led by Evan Stephens who was 3 for 6 with a homerun, three runs scored, three RBI and three stolen bases. D.J Hoagboon (UAlbany) was also 4 for 5 with two runs scored, two RBI and a double. Other notables included Chase Green (SIU Edwardsville) who was 2 for 5 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI; Zak Colby (Faulkner) who was 2 for 4 with a double and two runs cored; Demarcus Henderson (Mississippi State) who was 1 for 4 with a run scored and a walk and Ed Charleton (NJIT) who went 2 for 2 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI.

The DiamondDawgs return home Tuesday night against the Albany Dutchman for a 7:05 game.
