New York Red Bulls vs. Kansas City Wizards - FSN-NY, MetroSports
Giants Stadium, E. Rutherford, N.J. - 7:30 p.m.
Complete game preview: http://web.mlsnet.com/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20061013&content_id=75506&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp
The MLS schedule couldn't have been better planned. The final available place in the Eastern Conference for the MLS Cup Playoffs comes down to a single game, winner-take-all matchup. For the New York Red Bulls, it's deja vú all over again - a year ago, just as this year, they came into the final game needing a victory to claim the final spot. Unlike 2005 though, this time they are at home. The Kansas City Wizards gained the advantage last weekend when they captured a late victory in the final ever regular-season game at Arrowhead Stadium; they need just a draw in the Meadowlands to take fourth place and secure a date in the conference semifinals with D.C. United.

Complete game preview: http://web.mlsnet.com/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20061013&content_id=75439&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp
Having once again put on a seemingly patented late-season charge, the New England Revolution can secure home-field advantage for the Eastern Conference Semifinals with a victory against the Columbus Crew on Saturday night. A loss or a draw, and the door is open for the Chicago Fire to play host for the second leg when the two clubs meet in the first round of the MLS Cup Playoffs. The Crew were the first East team eliminated from playoff consideration; it's the second consecutive year they have failed to reach the postseason after winning the Supporters' Shield in 2004.

Houston Dynamo vs. Colorado Rapids -- HDNet
Roberston Stadium, Houston, Texas - 8:30 p.m.
Complete game preview: http://web.mlsnet.com/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20061013&content_id=75433&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp
The Colorado Rapids hit the road - which hasn't been kind to them this season - needing just a single point to ensure they will be in the MLS Cup Playoffs. It's a rematch of the season opener those many months ago - when Brian Ching scored four goals as Houston Dynamo won their first-ever game, 5-2. Dynamo have already secured their place in the postseason; with a victory against Colorado, the Rapids will be then left waiting on Sunday's match between Chivas USA and Real Salt Lake to see their future - a Real win and Colorado is out. However, Houston also has something to play for: A Colorado victory, then a Chivas USA win the following day, and Chivas will have home-field advantage when the two clubs meet in the conference semifinals.

Los Angeles Galaxy vs. FC Dallas - FSC, FSN-PT
The Home Depot Center, Carson, Calif. - 10:30 p.m.
Complete game preview: http://web.mlsnet.com/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20061013&content_id=75434&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp
The curtain falls on the title defense of the Los Angeles Galaxy this weekend, as they bring an end to their 11th season having failed to reach the MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time ever, following last week's 2-1 loss to FC Dallas in the front half of the season-ending home-and-home series. With the victory, FC Dallas also ensured they will maintain home-field advantage throughout the postseason - which could, of course, extend all the way to the MLS Cup Final. Now they only have to wait for the other results over the weekend to see which of three potential opponents they will face in the conference semifinals.

By the time the game is played at RFK Stadium, both D.C. United and the Chicago Fire will know almost everything about their postseason roads ahead. For D.C. United, they will be on the road for the first game of the Eastern Conference Semifinals, holding home-field advantage throughout the postseason after winning the MLS Supporters' Shield. On Saturday night, they will find out if their first-round opponent will be New York or Kansas City. The Chicago Fire know they will be facing the New England Revolution in the semifinals. A New England win Saturday vs. Columbus, and the Revolution will hold home-field advantage for the initial two-leg series; a draw in Foxborough, and the Fire can finish second with a victory in Washington, and a Crew win and the Fire take second with only a single point in the finale.

AT RFK STADIUM (13 meetings): United 8 wins (0 shootout), 24 goals ... Fire 3 wins (0 shootout), 15 goals ... 2 draws
-- This is the fourth and final regular season meeting, the second at RFK Stadium, between the clubs who have had a pitched rivalry since the Fire's entrance into the league in 1998.
-- United won two of the four league meetings a year ago in a goal-filled season series, with the Fire taking one with one draw. The teams then met in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals where there were again goals aplenty but only for the Fire, winning 4-0 on aggregate after a 4-0 second-leg win in the nation's capital, the heaviest playoff home defeat for United.
-- In the first 27 all-time regular season meetings between the clubs, they've exactly halved everything. Each team has won 11 times with five draws, each scoring 42 goals.
-- But in three MLS Cup Playoffs series between the clubs, United have never defeated the Fire in five matches. They had lost the first three (including a 2-0 loss in the 1998 MLS Cup Final) before gaining a draw in the first leg of last year's quarterfinal series.

Chivas USA vs. Real Salt Lake - FSC, FSN West, FSN Utah
The Home Depot Center, Carson, Calif. - 7 p.m.
Complete game preview: http://web.mlsnet.com/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20061013&content_id=75509&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp
A week after securing the first playoff berth in the club's short history, Chivas USA could head into their season finale with a chance to take second place in the Western Conference and home-field advantage in a potential semifinal series against Houston Dynamo. However, if that's the case, then Real Salt Lake will have seen their playoff dreams dashed - that would mean a Colorado Rapids win Saturday in Houston, and Real would be eliminated. However, if Dynamo win Saturday, then RSL must defeat Chivas to sneak into the postseason in the final game of the 2006 season. A draw in Houston, and Real's playoff hopes are also over, while Chivas will go into the finale knowing they will be taking on Dynamo in the conference semifinals.
