May 20, 2014 - Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release

NEW YORK (May 20, 2014) -The MLS Disciplinary Committee has suspended D.C. United forward Eddie Johnson one game and fined him an undisclosed amount for his reckless challenge against Montreal Impact goalkeeper Troy Perkins in the 60th minute of the game on May 17 (VIDEO). Through the MLS Players Union, Johnson submitted an appeal, which was unsuccessful. The Committee has also fined Johnson an undisclosed amount for his actions towards Montreal Impact defender Wandrille Lefevre that violated the League's policy regarding hands to the face/head of an opponent in the 60th minute of the game on May 17.

The Committee has suspended Portland Timbers defender Alvas Powell one additional game for serious foul play that endangered the safety of an opponent against Columbus Crew defender Chad Barson in the 34th minute of the game on May 17. Powell received a red card on the play.

The Committee has determined the Columbus Crew violated the League's mass confrontation policy in the 85th minute of the game on May 17 against the Portland Timbers. The Crew and head coach Gregg Berhalter will both receive fines as this is the club's second infraction this year.
