MLS Disciplinary Committee and Independent Review Panel Issues Decisions

Published on April 22, 2021 under Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release

NEW YORK - The MLS Disciplinary Committee has found Austin FC defender Jhohan Romaña guilty of simulation/embellishment. Romaña has been fined an undisclosed amount for his action in the 70th minute of Austin's match against the Los Angeles Football Club on April 17.

Independent Review Panel Denies New England Revolution Appeal of Jones Red Card

The Independent Review Panel, consisting of one representative from the U.S. Soccer Federation, one representative from the Canadian Soccer Association, and one independent representative nominated by the Professional Referee Organization, has denied New England Revolution's appeal of the red card issued to defender DeJuan Jones in the 92+ minute of New England's match against Chicago Fire FC on April 17.

As a result of the denied appeal, Jones is not eligible to play in New England's next regular season game on Saturday, April 24, against D.C. United as he serves a one-match suspension for the red card.

Each club is entitled to two unsuccessful appeals per season, including the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. Since New England's appeal was unsuccessful, the club has one unsuccessful appeal remaining for any future dismissals in the 2021 season.
