MLS Announces Xbox 360 Individual and Team Fair Play Award Winners
Published on November 8, 2011 under Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release
NEW YORK (Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011) - Major League Soccer today announced the Xbox 360 Individual and Team Fair Play Awards.
2011 Xbox 360 Individual Fair Play Award:
Philadelphia Union forward Sebastién Le Toux started all 34 games and played all 3,060 minutes for his club this season and committed just 20 fouls and received no yellow or red cards, nor any supplementary discipline. He finished tied for third in MLS in combined goals (11) and assists (9) and led his team in both categories this year. Le Toux also exhibited sportsmanlike conduct on many occasions throughout the season. Together, these factors prompted MLS to select Le Toux as the winner of the 2011 Xbox 360 Individual Fair Play Award - the second consecutive year he has earned the honor, joining Steve Ralston (1999-2000) and Michael Parkhurst (2007-2008) as the only players to do so. Colorado Rapids defender Kosuke Kimura and New England Revolution defender Darrius Barnes were recognized as finalists for this year's award.
2011 Xbox 360 Team Fair Play Award:
The Portland Timbers committed a League-low 347 fouls this season - 27 fewer than the next closest team, Colorado. The Timbers were one of just five teams to average under 1.5 yellow cards per game, and their total of three red card ejections tied (with Columbus and Philadelphia) for second fewest in MLS this season, behind Seattle's total of two. In addition to the objective criteria above, MLS also looked at Disciplinary Committee action and overall sportsmanlike behavior in selecting the Portland Timbers as the 2011 Xbox 360 Team Fair Play recipient and recognizing the Philadelphia Union and Chivas USA as finalists for the award.
