NEW YORK (Wednesday, March 29, 2006) - MLS announced today a new, three-year deal with HDNet to deliver to fans live, high-definition broadcasts of MLS games. HDNet is the official, national high-definition television partner of MLS. Under the terms of the agreement, HDNet will broadcast a live game each weekend throughout the regular season and MLS Cup Playoffs, including 13 exclusive broadcast games that fans can only see on HDNet. HDNet's games will air primarily on Saturday nights.
"Soccer was made for high-definition television, as anyone who has ever seen one of our games on HDNet can attest," said MLS Commissioner Don Garber. "We are extremely pleased to continue our partnership with an enterprising, cutting-edge network like HDNet, and we know our fans will be excited to watch soccer in this great format."
HDNet kicks off its season on April 2 with live coverage of Houston Dynamo's first-ever home game as they host the Colorado Rapids at 7:30 ET. HDNet subscribers can catch their first HDNet exclusive game on April 15 as Houston travels to Washington to take on Freddy Adu and D.C. United. The HDNet schedule of games is listed below and is available on www.mlsnet.com. The second half of HDNet's schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
"We are incredibly excited to extend our deal with MLS for another 3 years," said Mark Cuban, President and Co-founder of HDNet. "Our viewership continues to explode and we hear it over and over how much our viewers love MLS on HDNet!"
Co-founded by Mark Cuban and General Manager Philip Garvin, HDNet provides viewers with exciting and topical news, sports, music and entertainment programming.
