Mizzi nabs second straight Player of the Week honor

Rockford, Ill.- For the second straight week Preston Mizzi led the Rockford IceHogs potent offense and for the second straight week the Hogs centerman was recognized by the United Hockey League. Mizzi became the first player in IceHogs history to get named the UHL's Player of the Week two weeks in a row after he was awarded the honor on Monday night by the UHL.

During Week 16, Mizzi accumulated 3g-5a-8pts in Rockford's three games. The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native registered seven points during Week 15 when he won the award. Mizzi started the week off with an IceHogs single-game season high four assists against the Elmira Jackals on Wednesday in Rockford's 7-4 win.

On Friday in Quad City, Mizzi figured in on the IceHogs first three goals, racking up a pair of goals and helping with another in the Hogs 4-3 win. The win extended Rockford's unbeaten streak to a season-high eight games (7-0-1). The Hogs unbeaten streak would come to an end on Saturday in Flint versus the Generals, but not Mizzi's hot play. The center notched a goal in the Hogs 5-3 loss and extended his point streak to an IceHogs season-high seven contests (7g-8a-15pts).

Mizzi also becomes the first position player to win two Player of the Week Awards in a single season. IceHogs goaltender Frederic Cloutier has won Goaltender of the Week three times this season (also most in club history) and former puck stopper J.F. Rivard won the goalie honor twice in 1999-2000.

Next Homestand: Friday, Feb. 9 vs. Flint Generals. Game time is 7:30 p.m. The Hogs and Generals meet up at the MetroCentre once again. The first 1,000 fans to the game will receive IceHogs Poster #5 from Pepsi, Medicine Man, Johnson Press and the Rockford Register Star.

Saturday, Feb. 10 vs. Muskegon Fury. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. The UHL's top team returns to the MetroCentre. The first 1,000 fans to the game and through the turnstiles will pick up a Hammy Hog Piggy Bank from Members Alliance Credit Union and 23WIFR.
