Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors regular season commenced with a trip to the home of the Barrie Colts this evening. Unfortunately, the Majors were held off the board in the first and final frames, and were defeated 3-1 by the home team. As a result, their record moves to 0-1-0-0 on the year.

The Colts opened up the scoring late in the 1st period, as Mitch Lebar connected at 16:56 off of passes from Darren Archibald and Ryan Gottschalk, to give the home squad a 1-0 lead heading into intermission.

However, Jordan Mayer replied for the Majors when he got the only goal of the 2nd period, at 1:10 on the power play, to knot the game. The assists went to Jared Gomes and William Wallén.

Then, Barrie's Michael Sgarbossa connected 12 seconds into the 3rd frame, with help from Ryan O'Connor and Cory McGillis, to make it 2-1. Unfortunately, Archibald found the back of the net at 11:22 once more for the Colts and ended the contest, 3-1. O'Connor and Marcus Pepe were the helpers.

JP Anderson got the start in net for the Majors and made 27 saves, while Peter Di Salvo also blocked 27 shots for the Colts. Mississauga went 1 for 5 on the power-play, while Barrie finished 1 for 6 on the night. The game's three stars were Archibald (1st), Di Salvo (2nd) and O'Connor (3rd).

The Majors will go on the road next Thursday night (September 25) to visit the Peterborough Petes at 7 p.m., and the Kingston Frontenacs the following night (September 26) at 7:30 p.m. They return to Mississauga for their home opener on Friday, October 3, as they face-off against the Niagara IceDogs at 7:30 p.m.
