Missed Opportunities, Five Errors Doom Storm in 9-4 Loss to the Quakes
June 13, 2019 - California League (CalL1)
Lake Elsinore Storm News Release
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif - With more errors than runs scored, the Storm dropped Game One of a five-game series in Rancho Cucamonga Wednesday night, losing 9-4 to the Dodgers' affiliate. The Quakes have now won nine of 11 against Lake Elsinore as the Storm lost their third straight game to fall to 32-32 overall.
Against LHP Aaron Leasher Rancho scored five runs in the first three frames, but Leasher regrouped to retire nine in a row before a double, followed by a pickoff at second, ended his night after six innings. The Storm had 11 hits but also went 2-12 with runners in scoring position while stranding 13 on base, seven of those in scoring position. Despite some futility the visitors trailed by only one run going into the bottom of the eighth only to see the Quakes score four runs, three unearned, to turn a 5-4 lead into a 9-4 victory.
The Storm are in second place in the South Division, eight back of the Quakes, with only four games remaining in the first half. The second half begins Thursday, June 20 in Lake Elsinore as all eight teams in the California League begin play after the All-Star break with a clean slate and 70 games remaining.
