Miron Named NLL Defensive Player of the Week

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- The National Lacrosse League announced today that Arizona Sting goalie Mike Miron captured the NLL Defensive Player of the Week award for his performance in Saturday's game at Rochester.
Miron earned Defensive Player of the Week honors for Week #3 after he recorded 41 saves, allowed only eight goals and collected four loose balls in a 9-8 overtime victory over the Rochester Knighthawks. This marks the second consecutive week that an Arizona Sting player has earned one of the NLL's Weekly Player Awards as forward Dan Dawson captured both the NLL Overall and Offensive Player of the Week awards in Week #2.
The NLL also announced that Toronto forward Blaine Manning captured the Week #3 Overall and Offensive Player of the Week awards. Manning scored six goals and added four assists for ten points in a 19-15 win over Minnesota. Manning also collected ten loose balls and won three of seven faceoff attempts in the win. Riley Kemp of Minnesota captured his first-ever Weekly Award as he was named Rookie of the Week. Kemp scored a goal and collected six loose balls in a 19-15 loss to Toronto.
OVERALL & OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Blaine Manning (Toronto) (6G, 4A, 10pts, 10LB, won 3 of 7 faceoffs) scored six goals and added four assists for ten points and collected ten loose balls in a 19-15 win over Minnesota. Manning also won three out of seven faceoff attempts.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Mike Miron (Arizona) (41 saves, 8 goals against, 4 LB) recorded 41 saves, allowed eight goals, and collected four loose balls in a 9-8 overtime win over Rochester.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK - Riley Kemp (Minnesota) (1G, 6LB) scored a goal and collected six loose balls in a 19-15 loss to Toronto.
The Weekly Player Awards are determined by a vote of the General Managers & Head Coaches of the league's ten member clubs.
The Arizona Sting is a professional indoor lacrosse team playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). The Sting will play 16 regular season games in 2005 including 8 home games at Glendale Arena.
