
Miracles Lose in Double Overtime to the Mill Rats

(Moncton, NB) The Moncton Miracles lost to their NB rivals the Saint John Mill Rats in double overtime with a final score of 106-109.
The first three minutes began with Saint John making shot after shot and took an early 4-12 lead. The Miracles were not about to lay down though. With Sylvania Watkins and Devin Sweetney leading the way by the 3-minute mark it was a 2-point game, 18-20. The first quarter ended with the Miracles trailing 22-26 to the Mill Rats.
Saint John continued to build their lead in the second quarter basket by basket and were up 29-40 with 5 minutes left in the half. With 3 minutes left to play in the second quarter the Miracles began to battle back and came within 2-points but still finished the half short. At the end of the first half the game the Miracles were still down 44-48.
The third quarter began with the Mill Rats once again pulling ahead and within minutes had regained a solid 10-point lead and showed no signs of slowing down. Moncton came out on a 17-9 run in the fourth quarter and had closed the gap to 74-81 with 6:41 left on the clock. Buzzer went at the end of regulation and sent this game into overtime, 86-86.
Overtime was a battle with most points being scored at the line. PJ Young went 2 for 2 from the line with a minute left on the clock to give the Mill Rats a 91-92 edge. At the end of the 5 minutes extra time the game was still tied up at 93-93 so into a second OT they went.
The second overtime continued with 3 Miracles players fouling out and Moncton not being able to hold on.
Saint John's Cavell Johnson left the game in the first overtime with 6 fouls. In the second overtime Miracles Sylvania Watkins, Darrell Wonge, and Oliver McNally were all fouled out.
Devin Sweetney led the way for the Miracles with 29 points and 9 rebounds. Tyrone Levett followed with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Anthony Anderson was the top scorer for the Mill Rats with 24 points and 7 assists. Jerice Crouch was right behind him with 18 points.
The Miracles play their next on the road against the Halifax Rainmen on Friday, November 16th. The next home game will be Sunday, November 18th against the Oshawa Power. Tip-off is 7pm at the Moncton Coliseum.
