Miracles Lose By One To Lightning

(Moncton, NB) The Moncton Miracles, presented by Rogers, lost to the London Lightning with a final score of 76-77 The Miracles now sit with a 15-17 record.

The first basket of the game came from Miracles Isaac Butts in the inside of the key as he posted up Jeremy Williams. Butts would have the first 6 points for the Miracles followed by Devin Sweetney for the next 4 giving them an early 10-4 lead. The Miracles would continue to push strong and with another 3 from Sweetney would have a 16-4 lead.

London's Rodney Buford would enter the game giving his team a spark late in the first quarter. Hitting 2 consecutive 3's he would bring it to a 5 point spread, 20-15.

The first quarter ended with the Miracles edging the Lightning 24-15. Sweetney led the way with an impressive 13 points.

The Lighting would start the second quarter on a 9-2 run to bring them within 2-points of the Miracles, 26-24. With 6:41 minutes left to play in the half Lightning's Jeremy Williams would tie the game up at 26-26. With less than 4 minutes to play Miracles Cordell Jeanty would get a lay-up to give his team back the lead, 31-30.

The first half would end with London's Marvin Phillips cashing in with the 3-point play giving them a 35-38 lead.

Miracles would start the third quarter with a quick 5 points to give them back a 40-38 lead. London would then go on a run of their own and pulled ahead by 8 points with less than 6 minutes to play in the third quarter, 43-51. Marvin Phillips would end the third quarter with a dunk for the Lightning securing them with a 53-61 lead going into the last 12 minutes of play.

Sweetney would hit a 3 with 8:19 left on the clock in the game to bring the game within 1 point, 62-63. This basket would put Devin with 764 points this season, surpassing Gabe Freeman's record from the 2011-2012 NBL Canada season with 761 points.

Devin Sweetney led the way for the Miracles with 27 points. Oliver McNally followed with 13 points and Isaac Butts dropped 12 points and pulled down 15 rebounds.

Marvin Phillips was the force for the Lightning with 22 points. Rodney Buford was next with 14 points and Elvin Mims with 10 points and 14 rebounds.

The Miracles play their next game at home on Wednesday, January 30th against the Saint John Mill Rats. Tip-off is 7pm at the Moncton Coliseum.
