Miracles Fall Hard in Game 2 to the Lightning

(Ontario, ON) The Moncton Miracles, presented by Rogers, lost to the London Lightning in Game 2 of Round 2 in the NBL of Canada Playoffs with a final score of 78-89. The Lightning lead the series 0-2.

Both teams would have a slow start and would only be a 10-13 ball game with 3 minutes left to play on the clock. The Miracles would still be suffering from the loss of Sylvania Watkins who sat out due to a back injury that occurred in Game 1 of the series. Miracles Kamar Burke would cash in on a 3-point late in the quarter to tie the game up at 17-17. Devin Sweetney would then go coast to coast to give Moncton a 19-17 lead at the end of the first quarter. Both teams struggled from behind the arc shooting 0-6.

Miracles Sweetney would hit the first 3 of the game in the second quarter 26-19. Jeremy Williams would hit a jumper with just under 4 minutes to give the Lightning the lead back 26-27. London would pull ahead before Moncton's Isaac Butts would hit some free-throws to tie the game back up. Miracles Herman Favors would hit a buzzer beater 3-point shot to end the second quarter with the Miracles trailing 34-37.

Both teams would struggle from the 3-point line in the first half with Moncton leading the way shooting 16.67% (2-12) while London shot 0% (0-9). Miracles Butts was leading the way for his team with 9 points and 10 rebounds at the half while Lightning's Jeremy Williams had 9 points and pulled down 4 boards.

Miracles Favors would get a hot hand in the third quarter to help his team battle through. After having struggled for the beginning of the quarter with shots and getting into foul trouble early they would take a 57-51 lead late in the quarter and continue to try and push to the finish. The quarter would end with Moncton holding on to the scoreboard advantage 59-57.

The Lightning's shots would finally start to drop early in the fourth quarter to have the game tied up at 65-65 with 8:49 left on the clock. London would continue on a 13-0 run to pull ahead on Moncton 65-78 and never look back. The Miracles 24 turnovers hurt them down the stretch when their opponents only had 10.

Herman Favors led the way for the Miracles with 26 points. Devin Sweetney followed with 22 points while Isaac Butts added in with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

Rodney Buford was the force for the Lightning with 19 points. Morgan Lewis was next with 16 points and Elvin Mims, Tim Ellis, and Jeremy Williams all had 11 points each.

The Miracles bench and Isaac Butts were handed a technical fouls. Lightning's Head Coach Michael Ray Richardson also received a technical.
