
Miracles Come up Short in Last Seconds against Rainmen

(Moncton, NB) The Moncton Miracles lost a heartbreaker to the Halifax Rainmen with a final score of 103-101 in front of 1,228 fans.
The Halifax Rainmen came out strong despite the Miracles' Sutherland netting the first points of the game. At the media timeout the Rainmen had a hold of the scoreboard with a 22-11 lead over the hometown Miracles. At the end of the first quarter the Miracles were down 31-28.
Moncton would immediately tie the game up before taking a 33-31 lead over the visiting team. The Miracles would lead by as many as 10 late in the second quarter with the Rainmen continuing to push back. The half would end with Moncton holding on to a 55-50 lead. Trayvon Lathan and Stanley Robinson led the way for Moncton with 12 points each. Kevin Young was the force for the Rainmen with 17 points.
The Halifax Rainmen bench would be handed a technical foul midway through the third quarter sending Troy Brewer to the line to give Moncton a 70-67 lead. At the end of the third quarter the Miracles would be holding on to a slim lead, 79-78.
Every time Moncton would pull ahead slightly, Halifax would fight back to shorten the gap. With 6 minutes to play in the game the Rainmen would regain control of the board, 89-88. Shawn Vanzant would hit a long 2 with 13.5 seconds left to play in the game to tie it up, 100-100. Forest Fisher would respond with a deep 3 for the Rainmen to give them the 103-100 advantage and eventually the win.
Stanley Robinson led the way for the Miracles with 17 points. Trayvon Lathan added in with 15 and Troy Brewer with 13.
Chris Matthews did not play due to an injury and is day to day.
Kevin Young was on fire for the Rainmen and had 32 points. Tyrone Watson netted 14, while Liam McMorrow had 13 and 11.
The team hits the road next weekend against the Island Storm on February 7th. The Miracles are back at home on Sunday, February 8th against the Island Storm sponsored by the Royal Bank of Canada. Tip-off is 2pm at the Moncton Coliseum.
