Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
DUNEDIN, FL (April 29, 2006) - Considering the Miracle began their nine game road trip 1-4, they had to be happy to finish at 4-5, but the way things were going Friday night at Knology Park it looked like they would finish a game over .500 on the trip. Unfortunately, the Miracle couldn't find the strike zone late in the game and lost 7-3 to the Dunedin Blue Jays.
Angel Garcia, who had given up just one run in 15.1 innings this season, looked uncomfortable during the four batters he faced on Friday night. He walked all four batters he faced in the seventh inning, which tied the game at two. The Miracle pitchers walked a total of nine on the night. Tim Lahey then gave up a two run single to Ryan Klosterman and a double play groundout by Ron Davenport scored the fourth run of the inning to make it 5-2. The Blue Jays tacked on two more in the eighth when Alexander Farfan walked the lead off man in the inning and gave up a two run homer to Dustin Majewski.
The Miracle, who fell to 13-9, tried to come back in the ninth with two outs. Deacon Burns singled and Luke Hughes moved him to third with a single to center. Kory Feiner's infield single drove home Burns. Alexi Casilla's grounder towards first was snared on the backhand by Davenport who forced Feiner at second to end the game.
The game was close until the seventh. The Blue Jays took a 1-0 lead in the first on a Ryan Patterson solo homer, his first of the season. Anthony Swarzak didn't allow another run for the Miracle, going 6.0 innings allowing one run on three hits while walking four and striking out four.
The Miracle tied it in the third when Feiner led off with a walk. With one out he scored on a Trevor Plouffe RBI double.
The Miracle took their only lead in the seventh when Brock Peterson hit his first homer of the season, a solo blast over the right-center field wall.
The Miracle now head home to take on the Dunedin Blue Jays for three games. Sunday afternoon's 1:05 p.m. contest will take place at Terry Park. The Miracle send RHP Kevin Slowey (0-0, 1.93) to the hill.
