Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

DUNEDIN, FL (June 27, 2006) - If the Fort Myers Miracle were hoping to make a statement that the first half championship by the Dunedin Blue Jays was a fluke, then they better hope they do a better job in four days when the Blue Jays come to Hammond Stadium because the Miracle were swept, losing Tuesday afternoon 4-3 at Knology Park.

For the third straight game the Blue Jays were able to get a multi-run inning that helped them win the game, this time it was a three run fifth. With the Miracle leading 3-1 and a runner on first and two outs, Cory Patton doubled home Eric Nielsen to make it 3-2. Patton finished the three game series with 12 RBI. Ryan Klosterman then hit a fly ball to left that Erold Andrus came in on, then realized the ball was over his head and played it into a double which scored Patton to tie the game. Scott Dragicevich, who entered the game in the top of the inning when third baseman Chris Gutierrez was thrown out for arguing a call with the umpire, blooped a single to right that scored Klosterman and gave the Blue Jays the lead.

The Miracle, who fell to 2-3 in the second half, managed just one base runner over the final four innings, a lead off walk to Brandon Roberts in the eighth, who stole second, but was left stranded.

For the second straight game the Miracle scored in the first when Alexi Casilla led off with a double. He moved to third on a sac bunt by Roberts and scored on Trevor Plouffe's sac fly. Plouffe went 0-2 with two sac flies and his hitting streak came to an end at nine games.

The Blue Jays wasted no time tying the game in the bottom of the inning. Aaron Mathews reached on a bad hop single off the shoulder of third baseman Luke Hughes. Ryan Patterson followed with a grounder to Casilla at second, but his flip to Plouffe covering the bag was wide and Casilla was charged with an error, one of four by the Miracle on the day and the third straight game they have committed four errors. One out later Eric Nielsen singled home Mathews to tie the game at one.

The Miracle took a 2-1 lead in the fourth on Brock Peterson's ninth homer of the season, a solo shot to right. They added another run in the fifth when Korey Feiner and Andrus had back-to-back singles. After Feiner was forced at third, Roberts hit a grounder to first, but Christian Snavely's throw to second pulled Klosterman off the bag. Plouffe followed with a sac fly to give the Miracle a 3-1 lead.

The Miracle now head to Legends Field to take on the Tampa Yankees in a 7:00 p.m. game on Wednesday night. The Miracle send RHP Josh Hill (3-2, 6.47) to the mound.
