Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 10, 2014) - Tyler Duffey pitched six innings and yielded just one unearned run to help the Fort Myers Miracle complete a series sweep over the Charlotte Stone Crabs with a 4-1 win on Thursday night at Hammond Stadium.

The Stone Crabs struck in the first inning with Charlotte's sole run of the game. Leonardo Reginatto reached on a fielding error by third baseman Niko Goodrum and would score on a single knocked into center field by Patrick Leonard to put the Stone Crabs up 1-0.

Bats for both teams were silent until the fourth inning and the Miracle only managed one hit off Charlotte starter Roberto Gomez. Adam Brett Walker changed Fort Myers' fortune with a two-out solo blast to tie the game.

With a single in the sixth, Walker finished 2-for-4 and the home run was his third of the season.

The Miracle capitalized on an offensive threat in the following frame and ticked three runs on the scoreboard. With the bases loaded, Goodrum pumped out his eighth RBI of the year and third of the series by singling home Stuart Turner. Levi Michael followed Goodrum's RBI with one of his own, doubling home Mike Gonzales. Polanco then singled to score Goodrum to give the Miracle a 4-1 lead.

Duffey (2-0) exuded control in a six inning outing. Earning his second win of the season, Duffey fanned four and allowed just one unearned run on four hits.

Southpaw David Hurlbut replaced Duffey to begin the seventh and slid out of a two-on, one-out spot by coaxing Andrew Toles into a double play to end the inning. Hurlbut allowed only one hit in the eighth to register two scoreless frames.

Madison Boer concluded the ninth, allowing one walk and earning his first save of the season.

Gomez (0-1) was tagged with his first loss of the year. The right-hander pitched six innings and allowed four earned runs on eight hits.

The Miracle (6-1) hit the road for a six-game road trip beginning at Tradition field to play St. Lucie (3-4) on Friday, April 11. First pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Fans can tune in to the broadcast on www.miraclebaseball.com with the "˜Voice of the Miracle' Brice Zimmerman. The Head Quarters Men's Haircuts pregame show begins at 6:05 p.m.
