Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
JUPITER -- The Fort Myers Miracle (10-6) have lost two straight to the Jupiter Hammerheads (8-8) after struggling on offense in a 5-1 Sunday defeat.
Fort Myers left ten men on base and scored just one run despite outhitting Jupiter 9-6. The Miracle didn't score until the top of the ninth.
Deolis Guerra (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season in a six- inning effort with six hits, five runs -- all earned, two walks, and three strikeouts. The first Hammerhead run came across in the fourth when Guerra balked a runner to third, then uncorked a wild pitch to allow him to win. Spike McDougall stole home in the fifth, but the big blow was a three-run homer in the sixth by Jacob Blackwood, his first of the season.
Elih Villanueva (1-2) won with six innings, six hits, one walk, and seven strikeouts. Designated hitter Joe Mauer was 2-for-4, both singles, and Estarlin de los Santos and Chris Cates also collected two hits a piece.
The Palm Beach Cardinals return to Roger Dean Stadium to host the Miracle in a three-game series. David Bromberg takes the mound on Monday at 7:05 p.m. as Fort Myers looks to snap a two-game losing streak.
