DAYTONA BEACH - Jovan Rosa's three-RBI day not only put the Daytona Cubs (8-8) out in front early, but also gave them the lead for good in a 5-3 win over the Lakeland Flying Tigers (7-9).

Rosa came to bat in the bottom of the first with the bases loaded after three consecutive singles to start the ballgame. The designated hitter then drove in two with a line drive double down the third base line. Centerfielder Marwin Gonzalez later scored on a passed ball to give the Cubs a 3-0 edge.

Rosa would deliver the games winning run in his next at bat when he took Lakeland starter L.J. Gagnier (1-1) deep to left for his first home run of the season to make it 4-1. First baseman Russ Canzler would join the list of Cubs hitters with homers in 2009 when he pushed the score to 5-2 on a blast to left center off Gagnier.

Cubs' starter Andrew Cashner (0-0) was the story prior to the opening pitch, as the first round draft pick made his return to Daytona after an oblique injury forced him into extended spring training. The right hander threw two-and-two-thirds innings of one run baseball, with just one hit allowed and two strike outs.

Hank Williamson (1-0) would come to spell him and maintain the lead through another three-and-one-third to pick up his first win of the season. Jake Muyco finished off the game with an inning-ending double play in the eighth and a one-run ninth for his first and the Cubs second save of the season.

The Cubs hit the road Monday night for a home-and-home series with Brevard County over the next four days. Ryan Searle will be the starter for Daytona. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. You can catch all the action beginning at 6:45 p.m. on AM1340 WROD and online at www.daytonacubs.com
