PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Fort Myers Miracle edged the Charlotte Stone Crabs 6-4 on Friday night to extend their winning streak to eight in a row to start the 2013 season.

The 8-0 record is one win shy of tying the team record of 9-0 to begin 1994.

Angel Morales provided the big blow in the ballgame, breaking a 1-1 tie in the sixth with a three-run double on an 0-2 count off of Jake Floethe. Eddie Rosario followed with a double to deep center that plated Morales for a 5-1 lead.

Relievers Cole Johnson and Adrian Salcedo were able to hang on the rest of the way in relief of starter Matt Summers, who allowed just three hits and one run in five innings.

Johnson gave up a leadoff triple to Drew Vettleson in the sixth and Vettelson later scored on a sac fly. The Miracle got the run back in the seventh when Andy Leer's fly out to left field was deep enough to score Michael Gonzales.

Salcedo gave up a run in the eighth and another in the ninth, but Jeff Hager grounded out harmlessly to Miguel Sano to end the game.

Fort Myers got on the board first in the third inning when Matt Koch's broken bat single brought home Rosario. It was one of four singles on the night for Koch, who finished 4 for 5.

The Stone Crabs tied the game in the fifth on an RBI single by Hager, but Summers settled down to get Hector Guevara to pop out and end the frame.

The score held until the Miracle were able to load the bases against Floethe in the sixth. Jhon Goncalves reached on a fielders choice, Leer walked and AJ Pettersen was hit by a pitch. Morales then unloaded on an 0-2 fastball from Floethe to bring everyone home.

The Miracle (8-0) will try to match the best start in team history on Saturday when they travel to Charlotte Sports Park again to take on the Stone Crabs (4-4) on Saturday. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. Join Brice Zimmerman for the broadcast presented by Square One Burgers and Bar beginning at 6:15 p.m.
