Minot Skyrockets News Release

Pittsburgh, PA - December 18, 2006 - The Minot Skyrockets defeated the Pittsburgh Xplosion on the road tonight. Minot was playing shorthanded with a 9-man roster, but managed to pull out the win and a 6-1 quarter point score.

Pittsburgh jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but Minot quickly came back and never relented. With 7:28 left in the first quarter, Jitim Young had the assist on a Ray Cunningham field goal to put Minot up 11-10, their first lead of the game. Minot went on a 9-0 run late in the first and ended the quarter up on Pittsburgh 26-19.

Minot continued to dominate through the half, but Pittsburgh came out swinging in the third quarter. The Xplosion won the third 33-23 and ended the quarter up by one point.

In the end, Minot proved too much for the Xplosion, dominating them in the fourth quarter. Minot scored 25 points in the fourth, compared to Pittsburgh's 13.

Minot played as a team, and everyone on the floor contributed. Ray Cunningham led the team with 27 points, followed by Desmond "Moneyball" Ferguson with 15 points. Kenyon Gamble had 13 rebounds tonight, giving him 63 rebounds on the season and an average of 7 rpg. Willie Chandler was also a big contributor, hitting three 3-pointers again tonight.

The Skyrockets play on the road again tomorrow night when they take on the Albany Patroons for the first time this season. Albany is currently ranked second in the American Conference. They sit with a 5-2 record and 29.5 quarter points, giving them a 4.21 quarter point average. Minot still sits in first place in the American Conference with a 6-3 record and 41 quarter points, putting them at a 4.56 quarter point average.

Following tomorrow's game at Albany, the team will head their separate ways for a couple days of holiday break and reunite in Albany for a two-game series on December 26th and 29th. They then head to Anderson, Indiana for a game on December 31st and will return to Minot for the next home game on January 2nd.

The Skyrockets will again take on the Indiana Alley Cats on the 2nd in what will be the fifth meeting between the two teams. The games between the two conference opponents have been heated thus far, and the rivalry against former Magic City Snowbears Head Coach and current Alley Cats Assistant Coach Rob Spon is growing quickly.

Fans who are interested in purchasing home game tickets and souvenir merchandise are invited to visit the Skyrockets office in the lower level of the Minot Municipal Auditorium or by calling 839-SLAM.
