Minnesota United Looks for First Win on Soccer Mom Appreciation Night
May 9, 2015 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
Minnesota United FC News Release
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Friday, May 8th, 2015) -- With three points from four matches, Minnesota United returns to the National Sports Center Stadium this Saturday in search of its first win of the season. United (0W-3T-1L, 3pts.) hosts the streaking Atlanta Silverbacks (1W-4T-0L, 7pts.). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. - fans can watch all the action live on KSTC45-TV and ESPN3.
It has been a slow start to the 2015 campaign for the Loons, a club with high expectations that have so far gone unfulfilled. With just one loss, Minnesota has drawn three matches in 2015.
"We've had a sluggish start with a lot of road games where we haven't gotten the results we've wanted to," said United Head Coach Manny Lagos. "We had a well-played draw here at home, but the big thing for us is to make sure we're thinking about how we want to prepare for this Saturday-acknowledging Atlanta has had a great start to their season."
The Silverbacks have started the 2015 campaign on the right foot. The league-owned team has earned seven points on the season-enough to sit level with the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers in third in the Spring Season standings, behind only on goal differential. The Atlanta Silverbacks are unbeaten in the season, and undefeated stretching back into 2014 -riding a six-match streak into NSC Stadium in Blaine.
Minnesota needs to start racking up wins in order to remain in contention for the Spring title and will need a strong showing Saturday night in front of the Loon faithful. "We're still growing as a group," said Lagos. "We've certainly had some stresses that haven't gone our way, but the guys are excited to get in front of their home fans and put a good soccer game together."
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CDT on Saturday, May 9th, at the National Sports Center Stadium.
We had a record crowd of 9,233 fans join us on opening night. Minnesota United returns home May 9th for Soccer Mom Appreciation Night presented by Carousel Motor Group! Tickets are available now.
